FLEET CARNIVAL 2006

TUG of WAR

DETAILS OF THIS YEARS CONTEST CAN BE FOUND HERE!

Hot Day

The 2006 Fleet Carnival "Battle of the Pubs" only had six teams taking part. This was due mostly to the extremely hot weather, but England playing (and losing) their World Cup match the day before could have also been a factor. Thanks to the Bricklayers Arms we did have a good beer tent.

The Black Horse did not want a team photo.

Mixed team

The two leagues of three teams each saw the Prince Arthur and the Imperial Standard eliminated. Even the prospect of getting nearer to the Ice Cream van could not motivate the 4 men 4 ladies team from the Imperial Standard.

Last year's losing finalist had one puller overcome by the heat so were at a disadvantage. The Monkey Puzzle agreed to lose one puller so that they event was competitive. Footware was a big factor on the dusty surface.

After 2 closely fought semi-finals the Queen Victoria and Monkey Puzzle went on the final.

Officials

The officials (Eric, Peter, Jim, Sharon and Gerald) on the day made sure that the event ran smoothly.

After a 3 pull final the Monkey Puzzle just beat the Queen Vic. Was it the lie of the ground or just their determination. The cash prizes were kindly donated by Ella Mae Garden Design and Landscapes.
